American Wine

America is a giant of wine production, comfortably the world’s fourth largest producer after France, Italy and Spain, and although most of its production and exports are European varietals, the nation does have several native species of grape that it turns into wine.

Today, wine is produced all over the United States, even the cold climes of Alaska. To most Britons, Californian wine will be the best known, and it’s no wonder, since 90 per cent of American wine is made here. But the state’s northern neighbour Oregon and its neighbour Washington also have thriving industries, as do states to the west of the USA such as Ohio, Indiana, New York and West Virginia. You’re going to love their Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Zinfandel as they’re made with all the love and attention you’d expect of this great wine-loving nation.
