Uruguayan Wine

Uruguayan wine is fast becoming a new South American classic, with a consistent, quality driven approach to winemaking. The country is perfectly positioned for grape growing, with the southern vineyards on the same latitude as Stellenbosch in South Africa. An influx of immigrants from the Basque country in France in the 19th century lead to plantings of the French Tannat grape and it is now the mainstay of the local production, offering a riper, earlier drinking style than its French counterparts.
