Alicante Bouschet Wine

Known as Alicante Bouschet in Portugal, and Garnacha Tintorera in Spain, this is one of the few red grapes that actually has red flesh and therefore produces red grape juice. It used to be grown as a high yielding blending grape used to add colour to pale reds but in more recent times, Alicante Bouschet has seen a revival as winemakers have discovered that using the right methods, it can produce full-bodied, deeply coloured wines with complex, spicy flavours. Alicante Bouschet is now mainly grown in Spain and Portugal but you may also find it in France, Italy and California. Pair with grilled meats or tomato based pasta dishes.
