Barbera Wine

With a bright-red cherry and blackberry character, soft tannins and a lovely roundness, red Barbera wine is a real crowd pleaser. Widely planted throughout Italy, the best examples can be found in Piemonte in Italy, notably in Barbera d'Asti and Barbera d'Alba. It is also grown in Lombardy near Milan. As it makes fairly light bodied wines, the Barbera grape is often barrel matured and allowed to age in bottle for a few years, the oak from the barrels adding body and developing a delicious taste of sour cherries. Pair Barbera wines with pasta or hearty stews.
