Godello Wine

Top quality Spanish wine grape variety that has earned high praise from wine critics. Oz Clarke goes so far as to consider it “…surely in the running for the title of Spain’s most interesting white grape…”.

Oz also notes that Godello has the “softly aromatic apricot character of Albariño but has a silkier texture, rather like a good Viognier.”

In the early 1970s Godello was on the edge of extinction, with just a few hundred vines left. But determined efforts in Galcia, its homeland in Spain, have seen a resurgence. This is all the more amazing given the first sole-variety wines made from Godello were only released in the mid-1980s.

Jancis Robinson notes the best wines are characterised by an intenseness, concentration and sleek minerality, and they’re well-suited to barrel fermentation.
