Gros Manseng Wine

A white grape variety found in South West France, specifically Jurançon. The grape has a thick skin and has high levels of acidity and sugar. Gros Manseng wine is commonly associated with sweet wines due to the high levels of acidity and sugar allowing for a balanced sweet wine that has potential for aging. However, more often than not the grape makes dry wines which tend to be highly aromatic, crisp wines with a taste of lemons. Gros Manseng is closely related to Petit Manseng which has smaller berries and produces the shrivelled grapes needed to make the top quality sweet wines of Jurançon and Pacherenc du Vic Bilh Moelleux. Gorgonzola with honey is a delicious match for sweet versions of Gros Manseng wines.
