Gruner Veltliner Wine

The most commonly planted white grape variety in Austria, Gruner Veltliner is crisp and spicy, with citrus aromas, herbaceous hints and notes of white pepper. Gruner Veltliner tends to appear in two different styles. The first – light, crisp and fresh. It isn’t uncommon for this to have a light spritz to it. The second is slightly more full bodied, it’s spicier and a little more complex. These wines tend to have more structure which needs time to soften in the bottle. Once matured they have a honey or marmalade flavour and a much richer golden colour. Pair Gruner Veltliner wine with Wiener schnitzel or a dish containing wasabi or horseradish and the wine’s full body and taste of honeyed spice will pair beautifully.
