Nebbiolo Wine

One of the more difficult grapes to grow, Nebbiolo produces wines with strong tannins, high acidity and a deep violet colour. Typical aromas range from roses to wood smoke and tar plus a taste of blackberries and cherries. A very distinctive grape most famously found in the northern Italian greats, Barolo and Barbaresco, Nebbiolo has been dubbed Italy’s Pinot Noir. But with good reason. Top quality Barolo wines can last several decades in bottle due to the structure and intense flavours of the wine. Outside Piedmont, you might encounter Nebbiolo in various locations in the New World, particularly the USA and Australia. Truffles, mushrooms and veal are a classic match for Nebbiolo.
