Pinot Noir Wine

Beloved by wine lovers and winemakers around the world, Pinot Noir nevertheless remains one of the most difficult grapes to grown well, with thin skins, susceptibility to disease and low yields. It doesn’t tolerate heat and much prefers cooler clay and limestone rich soils where it produces more concentrated styles. Many have tried to cultivate this grumpy varietal, and many have failed, yet when the stars align, this grape is simply…sublime.

As French as it comes, Pinot Noir’s heartland is Burgundy, where it single-handedly produces some of the world’s most expensive wines. Other areas to watch out for are Oregon, certain parts of the Napa Valley in California, New Zealand, Chile and the southern limits of Australia. Let’s not forget its’ starring role in Champagne where it provides richness, structure and of course the delicate pink colour in rosé champagne. Taste-wise, Pinot Noir will almost certainly make you think of soft red fruits – raspberry, cherry and strawberry, but also expect savoury, earthy tones and herbaceous notes, depending on its age and origin.
