Pinotage Wine

The flagship grape of South Africa, Pinotage has had bad publicity over the years but a great quality Pinotage wine is something to shout about. You might find rich black and red fruit flavours that develop into the taste of dark chocolate, wood smoke, leather and rubber. The grapes’ origin lies in a crossing between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, making it a hardy and productive vine but it needs warm, sunny conditions to ripen well. Pinotage can range from easy drinking red wines with generous fruit flavours to something far more complex. High quality wines tend to come from Stellenbosch where the vines were first propagated. Smoked duck or pulled pork make for great eating with Pinotage.
