Tinta Roriz Wines

Although it sounds like an obscure grape variety, Tinta Roriz is in fact the Portuguese name for Tempranillo, that very popular grape grown throughout Rioja and Ribera del Duero in Spain. In Portugal, Tinto Roriz (also known as Aragonês) is used in both dry red wines and in the fortified wine Port. The character of Tinta Roriz changes over time, with young wines having a fruity character and older wines developing earthy, savoury tones. Most Tempranillo wines come into some contact with oak which can add vanilla, coconut and cream notes, making for a smooth, rounded wine. A great wine to drink with roast pork or game.
