Touriga Nacional

If you like bold, full-bodied red wines you’ll love wines made with the Touriga Nacional grape. The most important red grape variety in the production of Port and fine Portuguese reds, Touriga Nacional is grown mainly in the Dão and the Douro Valleys in Portugal. The vine produces deep-coloured, tannic wines that can be floral in their youth and sometimes have a hint of mint. The rich tannin, high acidity and intense taste of dark fruit lend themselves very well to blending, ageing and fortifying. For food matches for dry red Touriga Nacional wines try lamb with mint sauce and for Ports either go savoury (think blue cheeses) or sweet (think chocolate fondant).
