This unoaked Chardonnay is made at the Willunga 100 winery and blends grapes sourced from the Fleurieu Peninsula south of Adelaide with a small amount of McLaren Vale fruit to add riper, tropical notes. A classic Chardonnay style with softy creamy texture and fruit balanced perfectly by a fresh citrus acidity.

Australian Chardonnay that's a distinct notch up in the quality stakes from the big brands.

More on the way soon
Aussie Chardonnay as it should be: plump and peachy with a fresh, mineral undercurrent.

The Producer

The 16 Stops wines are made at the Willunga 100 winery under the watchful eye of consultant winemaker Tim James, with much of the fruit sourced from the same vineyards. The wines blend the fruit from the McLaren Vale with that of the Adelaide Hills to combine the best of both areas, with riper flavours from the McLaren Vale, and fresh, mineral notes from the Adelaide Hills.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

"From the Fleurieu Peninsula of McLaren Vale, very close to the ocean and city of Adelaide, this is a very good example of the new Australian Chardonnay: no sign here of that heavy vanilla oak or blockbuster ripeness: with 12.5% alcohol this is rich, rounded and crammed with sweet fruit that takes centre stage. There is a touch of that flinty character that makes Chablis so appealing, but then the juicy, sweet orange and peach fruit."

(Tom's reviewing the 2014 vintage )

The Region

The Chardonnay grapes were sourced from Currency Creek, a region on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 80 kilometres south of Adelaide. The region is not far from the sea, so night time temperatures are not extreme and the daytime temperatures are moderated by cool breezes in the afternoons.

Crab Cakes

The delicate crab meat calls for a smooth, fruity, floral white such as our 16 Stops Chardonnay. This delight won't overpower the crab and compliment all the ingredients.

Gorgonzola stuffed Chicken Breast wrapped in Pancetta

Plump for a ripe, fruity white such as an Australian Chardonnay to contrast with the salty tang that the pancetta and cheese bring to the dish.

Mediterranean Wild Mushroom And Lentil Salad

An easy to prepare mid-week supper on its own or as a side dish with meat, this warm salad has plenty of gutsy flavours which need a supple, silky red with soft tannins or a white with more texture. Our 16 Stops Chardonnay will work a treat.
