Described by Steven Spurrier, the renowned wine writer, as 'good modern Médoc', Château L’Argenteyre will take your red Bordeaux drinking to new heights. Those two words, 'Cru Bourgeois' mean that it's a distinct notch up from your average Bordeaux.

And, given 'average' Bordeaux can be some of the best value red wines around, that's something to really look forward to. Thanks to the owners' focus on their vineyards, and coaxing the best from their 27 hectares, they're off to a head start when it comes to making a top-notch wine.

It's a seriously good Bordeaux.

The Producer

The vineyard of Château Argenteyre covers 27 hectares, it is affectionately known as the flower of its appellation.
Painstaking tending of the vines and careful vinification by its passionate viticulturalist-owners, Philippe and Gilles Reich allows this outstanding terroir to fully express itself.

The Winemaker

Gilles Reich is the winemaker behind the Château l'Argenteyre.
He and his brother tend the vines and keep the winemaking process as traditional as possible.
The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months before bottling to encourage a smooth structure and allow the fruit to integrate before drinking.

The Region

Located three kilometres from the Estuary and 15 kms from the ocean, in the extreme north of the Médoc, the Argenteyre castle and its 27 hectares of vineyards, owned since 1992 by Philippe and Gilles Reich, enjoys the benefit of the ocean climate and has enviable conditions for growing excellent quality grapes.

Blackened Steak With Red Wine Jus

A simple rump steak calls for a full-bodied red to square up to the dense structure of the meat. Head to rich, structured reds with some oak ageing to give a touch of spice. We'd go for Château L’Argenteyre Cru Bourgeois,

Baked Stuffed Aubergine With Walnut and Roquefort

With a lot of strong, rich flavours in this baked dish, you need to match the salty cheese with acidic tomato, savoury aubergine and nuts. Try a medium to full-bodied red with enough fruit flavour to contrast with the saltiness in the cheese. We'd head straight to Bordeaux for a good food match.
