Bordeaux is blessed with having some of the world's greatest sweet white regions of the world. Just over the river from the stellar Sauternes region lies Sainte-Croix-du-Mont. Here the magical conditions to produce grapes so naturally sweet they make the most luscious and luxurious wines possible are just right.

Cool morning mists slowly burn away to leave mild, sunny afternoons in autumn. Grapes gradually shrivel, concentrating the natural sugars. Meticulously harvested by hand (a process that takes several passes through the vineyards), this precious bounty is then transformed into a delicate wine, with a lovely balance between sweetness and refreshment.

Decadently delicious, whether with desserts or simply as a chilled aperitif.

Bordeaux's sweet wines are hailed as some of the best you can find. Thanks to the almost perfect conditions in the sweet wine areas, they're made from grapes affected by botrytis, the hallmark of all great sweet wines.

The Producer

A family-run estate through several generations which was founded after the war by a certain Monsieur Labat. He was succeeded by his daughter, Annie Lapouge in 1990, who worked to develop and modernise the estate until the year 2000. The reigns of Château des Arroucats are now in the hands of Annie's daughter, Virginie Barbe.

The Winemaker

Virginie Barbe, makes these sweet white wines with passionate dedication.
She harvests the grapes late, towards the end of October. The grapes are carefully hand-picked to achieve maximum quality. Concentrated juice is extracted from the different grape varieties by gentle pressing and fermented in vats. Fermentation ends when the desired balance has been achieved between the sweetness and alcohol.

The Region

Sainte-Croix-du-Mont is across the river from the famous sweet wine producing town of Sauternes. In Sainte-Croix-du-Mont one will find the same grape varieties as in the Sauternes growing region, a climate of morning mists and sunny afternoons, which are perfect for encouraging the botrytis needed to produce these sweet wines.

On trend and animal friendly. Cauliflower steaks are vegan, nutritious and delicious. Especially with this Mediterranean salsa. It's impressive enough to be the focal point of the meal, or will pair beautifully with fresh meat or fish. But, first and foremost, eat these cauli steaks with a glass of Rude wine.
