The owners liked this vineyard block so much, they named it after themselves. From New Zealand's South Island region of Nelson, Bolitho's Block is a fresh and tropical Sauvignon Blanc, with hints of mango, melon and ripe citrus fruit. The palate is intense and juicy with a refreshing mineral core. One to savour on its own or with a spiced fish dish or aromatic green curry.

Buy this if...you dream Sauvignon Blanc.

Expect a bit of whizz-bang, full-powered fruitiness from this vibrant Sauvignon.

The Producer

Owned by Trevor and Robyn Bolitho, Waimea Estates started out life as a horticultural operation, but the couple soon saw the potential in the local area for the production of quality wines. Their wine adventure began with the planting of vineyard sites in1993-1995, resulting in an award for their first Sauvignon Blanc vintage in 1997. Sustainable farming is at the forefront of their philosophy, with minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery and an emphasis on the health and wellbeing of the surrounding environment.

The Winemaker

Hamish Kempthorne heads the winemaking team at Waimea Estates having created wines for over fifteen years across Australia and New Zealand's premium cool climate winemaking regions. His aim with Sauvignon Blanc is to capture the intense aromatics whilst keeping the ripe, delicate structure of the wines. He's done a pretty good job so far.

The Region

Found at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, the coastal region of Nelson is New Zealand’s sunniest region and well-sheltered from strong winds by the surrounding mountain ranges. It offers an ideal climate for grape growing, testified by two-hundred years of fruit farming in the area, but the wine industry only really took hold in the 1970s. The focus is firmly on quality over quantity, with mostly family-run wineries producing just 2% of the total wine production of New Zealand. You’ll find Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir ever-present, along with crisp Chardonnays and aromatics such as Riesling and Pinot Gris.

Lemon & Parsley Fish Cakes

A great lunch or supper option served with green salad or chips, (depending on your attitude), these light fish cakes are crying out for a fresh, zingy and in the nicest way possible, fairly neutral white to pair up with the lemon and parsley notes in the dish. Try Sauvignon or unoaked Chardonnay.

Goat's Cheese in Vine Leaves

There are few better food and wine pairings than goat's cheese with Sauvignon Blanc, with the natural high acidity of the cheese squaring up to the same in the wine. The salty, creaminess of the cheese contrast well with the ripe fruit flavours in Sauvignon Blanc

Moules Marinière

This French classic is just the thing for a ripe, fruity Sauvignon Blanc.
