What a great find! This Ca' di Alte Merlot is made from 100% Merlot and has flavours of ripe red berries. Full-bodied and velvety this is a great example of a red from the Veneto region.

Merlot is well known for making soft. fruity, approachable wines that are versatile and go with a good range of foods. If you're looking for a great food and wine match we can recommend this red wine with Lamb or Chickpea Tagine, pasta dishes or a range of mature cheeses.

We think you'll be impressed by the quality of this wine for the price, and it's a bottle you won't find in the supermarket.

This is one of the best Italian red wines we've found so far and is made from the eternally popular Merlot grape in the Veneto region. You'll find this lovely wine is soft, fruity and excellent value. It's also suitable for vegans.

The Producer

The Cantina Colli Vicentini winery is found in Montecchio Maggiore in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. The town was home to Andrea Palladio, a 16th century architect who is famous for designing the Palladian window, hence the image on the bottle's label. Many of Palladio's masterpieces are now UNESCO world heritage sites.

The Winemaker

Winemaker and Director Alberto Marchisio has worked at Colli Vicentini winery since 2012 and has truly demonstrated his innate ability to preserve the grape's delicate aromas. You may also notice the oak influence on this wine, 40% of which was aged in oak barrels for around 5 months before bottling. Oak often gives wine a little extra body as well as a vanilla spice character.

The Region

The grapes for this wine are grown on South-West facing hillsides around Vicenza on hillside sites which allow for optimum ripening of the grapes and retention of acidity and aromas. This ensures the resulting wines are characterful and full of flavour. Veneto has long been a region known for producing great value wines including Prosecco made from the Glera grape as well as Soave mainly made from the Garganega grape variety.
