Of all the Bordeaux wine regions, perhaps Pomerol holds a special place in the hearts of Merlot-loving Claret drinkers around the world.

By no means a large region, Pomerol commands some very high prices for the big names. All the more remarkable then that L'Enclos manages to give you so much, for a very fair price. It's up on the plateau, where some of the famous wineries are based (it counts Le Pin and Château Clinet as neighbours), uses Michel Rolland as a consultant (the wine equivalent of a top Harley Street surgeon), and only 2,000 cases were made.

85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Malbec joined in perfect harmony. It's a wine for that meal when nothing but the best will do.

You too can sample what's so special about Pomerol's top wines, without sending your bank manager into fits of apoplexy. See why Merlot is the grape variety that shines in this small Bordeaux wine region, and why it's so highly regarded around the world.

The Producer

Owner Denise and Stephen Adams are in the process of securing the Château's organic certification.
Château L'Enclos is situated on the sunny western slope of the famed Pomerol plateau and is the sister Château to Château Fonplegade.

The Winemaker

Winemaking consultant Michel Rolland oversees the 2000 case production of Château L'Enclos from its 22 acres of ideally sited vineyard.
The wines are aged for 16 months in 40% new French oak barrels and 60% one-year-old barrels to produce wines noted for their lush mouthfeel and silky tannins.

The Region

The western slope of the Pomerol plateau, where the terraced vineyards are a mixture of sand and gravel soils, and clay subsoils help produce the geographically and stylistically unique wines of Château L'Enclos.

Game Meat Sausage Rolls

Who needs a plain old sausage roll when you can have a game sausage roll? The ultimate buffet nibble, these will go nicely with a medium-bodied Pomerol with rich, dark fruit flavours to pair with the gamey notes.

Beef Stew and Dumplings

A hearty rich stew calls for a medium bodied, savoury red, rather than very rich, full-bodied styles. Try Château L'Enclos for lighter, elegant styles.

Puy Lentil Bolognese

A rich, earthy, veggie sauce will complement a bright, fruity red from Bordeaux - try Château L'Enclos, it has plenty of fruit flavour and great structure to complement the rich bolognese sauce.
