Very smart red Bordeaux wine that's still remarkably affordable. Thanks to the Cabernet Sauvignon which makes up two-thirds of the blend (the other's Merlot), it's got a long life ahead of it too. So, if you've ever fancied starting a wine cellar, a few bottles of this would be ideal.

Eric Boissenot is a consultant here, with a host of Bordeaux's best wineries choosing his expertise to ensure their wines are at the top of their game. That Cabernet Sauvignon gives fantastically rich aromas of blackcurrants and mulberries, with a dense, rewarding palate and silky finish.

Being a wine connoisseur needn't be prohibitively expensive you see.

Good cassis character from the dominant Cabernet; lots of personality and a firm finish. 88 points Steven Spurrier, Decanter

This elegant wine is rich, with lightly structured black fruits that reveal the generosity of the vintage and also the ageing potential. Powered by the juicy black-currant fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a wine to age. 90 points Wine Enthusiast

The Producer

Château Peyredon Lagravette was purchased in 2009 by the Dupuch family. It became part of the estate and sister château to Château Sainte-Maire in Entre-Deux-Mers.
The family runs the property with passion and determination striving to express the distinctive character and uniqueness of their soils.

The Winemaker

The estate’s cellar master, Géraldine Lussiez, adds a pinch of feminine charm, which can be found in all the wines. She works closely with oenologist and winegrower Éric Boissenot which is an enormous asset in their quest for perfection.
The Cabernet-Merlot blend is aged for 14 months in acacia barrels, a third of those being new.

The Region

The estate lies within Haut-Médoc appellation. The five hectares are planted with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Château Peyredon Lagravette benefits from an outstanding terroir positioned in the middle of prestigious neighbours such as Château Poujeaux, Château Chasse-Spleen and Château Maucaillou.

Blackened Steak With Red Wine Jus

A simple rump steak calls for a full-bodied red to square up to the dense structure of the meat. Head to rich, structured reds with some oak ageing to give a touch of spice. This Cru Bourgeois from Château Peyredon Lagravette 2015 is a great option.

Roasted Quail Wrapped in Prosciutto

The classic gamey flavours of quail combined with salty ham call for a rich, decadent, earthy red from Haut-Médoc wine with a liberal dash of spice.

Tartiflette

The rich combination of potato, cheese, bacon and garlic could stop anyone in their tracks so pick ripe reds with good acidity, we'd recommend a Haut Médoc form Bordeaux or structured whites which will both cut through the delicious stodge!
