One of France's best white wines, white Châteauneuf-du-Pape can use the six grape varieties also allowed in the more common red wine. Here it's mainly Grenache Blanc, with Rousanne, Clairette & Bourboulenc the remainder. Only 200 cases of this exceptional French Rhône white wine made each year.

A classic example of a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape made from old vine fruit, this has heady aromas of white peach, honey and brioche with floral notes. The sweet tangy flavours of citrus, honey, stone fruit and blossom circulate on the well-structured palate. A brilliant wine to pair with food, this would work well with roast pork or mild spices.

Buy this if...you like richly structured, complex whites.

Well this has been a real find and I'm glad to have tried it, it was full of honey notes and very zingy, we both enjoyed this Chateauneuf, will be back soon for more. Ali

The Producer

The Château is a splendid 18th Century property, run by Laurent Bréchet. Over the past seven years, Laurent has transformed the estate through substantial investment and an obsession with quality. Situated northeast of the town, the vineyards surround those of Château Rayas, one of the best known Chateauneuf-du-Pape producers

The Winemaker

Every vineyard parcel is vinified separately with a long, slow extraction of juice. The reds are aged for between 15-18 months, with Syrah and Mourvedre in barrels and fruity Grenache in vats. The whites undergo 6 months ageing, some of which in barrel.

The Region

The name Vaudieu originated from 'Vallée de Dieu' (Valley of God), a reference to the beauty of the area. Spread over 70 hectares (60 of red, 10 of white), the soils vary greatly, from sand to quartz, with clay-limestone outcrops. This diversity of soil and exposure adds complexity to the blend, with the fruit from the sandier soils lending aromatic elegance and that from the galets giving power and intensity.

Not just a Christmas classic. The mix of light and dark meats and herbaceous rosemary make this dish the perfect match for medium – light body red and oak aged white from Châteauneuf-du-Pape or other Rhône appellations.
