Hailing from the Riverina and the Barossa Valley, this wine is 90% Cabernet and 10% Merlot. The Cabernet kicks in with concentrated blackcurrant flavours, while the Merlot adds generous, smooth tannins with a warming touch of vanilla spice from the oak ageing. Big and fruity enough to cope with BBQ ribs or full-flavoured hard cheeses such as a mature Cheddar.

Buy this if...you're looking for a punchy, fruit-driven red.

I first tried this wine in a mixed case and found it exceptionally delicious. It has now become a firm favourite, very tasty but not too heavy. A good all-round wine for any time of the year. Lorraine

The Producer

Made from a wide range of quality vineyards in Riverina in South Eastern Australia, the grapes come from vines grown in loam soils. Classic varieties Chardonnay and Semillon are used for the whites, with the reds predominatly Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

"A vegan-friendly wine and a classic blend of Bordeaux’s two mainstay varieties (90% Cabernet), there’s a hint of menthol or eucalyptus here, over ripe cassis fruit, and intense cherry too. In the mouth generous, ripe and deeply fruity, plum and crunchy blackcurrant, smoothed by a sheen of oak, into a warming but nicely balanced finish. This would be great with a really good quality Spag-Bol or meaty chilli"

The Region

The South-East Australia wine zone includes the states of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales and produces wines from a variety of different vineyard sites across the smaller regions. While these can be inexpensive blended wines, some producers also use this as a way to create their own personal blends of regional styles.

Seared Angus Fillet with French Fries

For this most prized cut of meat, only the silkiest and smoothest of reds will do. Try ripe Merlots or succulent Cabernet Sauvignon with a spicy kick.

Sausages with Mushrooms and Olives

Quick to prepare and packed with flavour, this sausage stew will work well with smooth, medium-bodied earthy reds with red fruit flavours. The Cranswick Lakefield from south-east Australia is a fine match.

Beef Stew & Dumplings

A hearty rich stew calls for a medium bodied, savoury red, rather than very rich, full-bodied styles - try a juicy Aussie Cabernet or red blend like the Cranswick Lakefield Cabernet Merlot.
