From the heart of South-West France, comes this stunning blend of local white grapes from the little-known appellation of Saint Mont. The vineyards of the Saint-Mont region stretch out to the foothills of the Pyrenees - a little off-the-beaten-track, and all the better for it. The blend of local grapes Gros Manseng, Petit Corbu and Arrufiac ensures a beautifully well balanced and unique white style that is rather too easy to drink. Care is taken in the winemaking process to preserve the aromatic qualities of the grapes and the resulting wine has rich fruity aromas of apple, lemon and grapefruit with a mouth-watering, creamy finish.

Buy this if...you love fresh, aromatic whites.

'Refreshing appley, grapefruity notes, juicy zesty acidity alongside creamy rounded fruits.'
Rose Murray Brown MW, The Scotsman, July 2016.

The Producer

Winemaker Andre Dubosc set about transforming the fortunes of the local wine industry in Saint Mont with a group of young wine growers, helping to create the Cotes de Gascogne appellation and at the same time renewing an interest in the sweet wines of Pacherenc. In 1979 the three local co-operatives joined forces to create Producteurs Plaimont, with a total of 1000 winegrowers spread over 5,300 hectares.

The Winemaker

Winemaker Patrick Azcue blends each variety separately, after which the wines are fermented and stainless steel and left to age on their lees in tank to gain complexity.

The Region

The Saint Mont region in south-west France stretches out to the foothills of the Pyrenees, producing white, red and rosé wines from blends of local and internationally-known grape varieties. Many of the vineyard sites are north or west facing, allowing for cooler temperatures which retain the aromatic qualities of the local grapes and preserve the unique regional character of the wines.

A great wine

Have never even heard of the grape varieties, a dry wine, to my taste similar to a Picpoul but with more frutiness. A really good wine with food

Chicken & Lentil Salad

The combination of earthy lentils and succulent chicken calls for a ripe, very smooth white with good fruit intensity and depth of flavour. Head to south-west France for great wine options.

Chilean Fish Stew

Pair rich fish stews with vibrant, zesty whites which have enough fruit flavour to balance out the punchy garlic, herbs and tomatoes. The Fleur de d'Artagnan Blanc from Saint Mont is a brilliant match.
