Fruity, Refreshing Rosé Wines

Five classically French rosé wines. Delicate shades of pink. Crisp, lip-smacking refreshment. Perfect if the sun's out, and they'll make up for the fact if it's not. What more could you ask of a summertime wine?

Smart Loire pinks oozing elegance and style, whilst Gascony's rolling countryside gives you two deliciously fruity numbers. Venture over towards the Languedoc and Cassagnau's blend is a firm Rude favourite, and newcomer Chic is exactly that.

Class in a glass, for just £8.17 a bottle. Summer drinks sorted.

Save 15%, or £17.49 on this case

It's the middle of summer, and that calls for pouring a glass of well-chilled rosé wine. With the sun picking out those gentle hues of pink, the aromas of soft red fruits, and a lively, refreshingly fruity set of flavours, they're summer in a glass

The Producer

Family-owned Domaine de Cassagnau is situated in the heart of the Languedoc region, due south of Carcasonne. The success of the estate has very much relied on the women of the family, with Berthe Abet in charge of the domaine for six decades and through two world wars. A doctor by profession, Jacques inherited the estate from his mother, Berthe's daughter Jacqueline, and continues the family business with wife Collette.

Château Cassemichère Rosè 2017, Loire

Here's a rosè wine that should be in every fridge this summer. It's a blend of three grape varieties from the Loire, made by a rather good Muscadet producer. It's the sort of rosè wine that has no pretences, just aimed at giving you maximum enjoyment

Château Cassemichère in the Loire Valley is better known for its white Muscadet wines. In fact, it was the first place recorded that Melon de Bourgogne (which makes Muscadet) was planted, by monks who'd brought it from Burgundy.

Now they have 45 hectares of vineyard dedicated to producing fine Loire wines.

Prawn Croquettes

A great snack or tapas dish, these prawn croquettes just need a drop of fresh, fruity rosé to set them off. Try the Château Cassemichère Rosè for a sublime match. Full recipe

Duck Breast With Wild Mushrooms and Cream

The rich, fatty flavours of duck, combined with creamy mushrooms call for a soft, smooth red with fresh fruit flavours. Head to light or medium bodied reds - fruity Pinot Noir, Grenache or Pinotage pair well. Or even, a Loire Rosé for something a little lighter. Full recipe

An Outstanding Rose

Our first Rose from our mixed case collection and what a first it proved to be. Once again heralding from the Languedoc, around Carcassonne, it's a lovely blend which includes Cabs Sauvignon and Franc along with, (and here's a surprise), Merlot! The result is a fabulously drinkable rose.
