Produced at the local co-operative just east of Soave in the Veneto region, this is made from Soave's Garganega grape. It's vibrantly perfumed, with plenty of ripe grapefruit and a delicate scent of white flowers, leading you in to a false sense of security. The palate, by contrast, packs a punch with juicy citrus, peach and a hint of spice, layered with a clean whip of fresh acidity on the finish.

Buy this if...you're a Soave fan.

'A herbal treat to enjoy outdoors, almost ice cold.
Made from tart garganega grapes, this is Soave on steroids.' Damian Barr, Sunday Times, July 2016

The Producer

The Cantina di Gambellara was founded in 1947 and has nearly 300 members who farm 600 hectares in this small denomination on the border between the provinces of Vicenza and Verona only a few miles east of Soave. Last year, this cantina merged with the Cantina dei Colli Vicentini where Alberto Marchisio is now responsible for winemaking.

The Winemaker

Winemaker Alberto Marchisio heads up the winemaking team at the two cantinas, selecting the best grapes from the volcanic hills to make this powerful rendition of the Garganega grape.

The Region

To the east of Soave in the Veneto region lies Gambellara, surrounded by a natural amphitheatre of hills at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. The vineyard is planted between 100-350 metres on a north-south facing slope, providing the best combination of soil, aspect and micro-climate.

Pea & Goat's Cheese Risotto

Risottos pair well with both reds and whites so consider the other ingredients when choosing a wine match - the combination of sweet peas and salty goats cheese call for a vibrant white with lots of fruit flavour - try northern Italian whites from Cortese or Garganega.
