Vineyards are situated in the Valpantena Valley where cool currents blow down the valley from the foothills of the Dolomites helping to moderate the climate, enabling the grapes to ripen slowly and retain aromatics and acidity. 20% of the juice is fermented in oak casks to add structure to the wine. Zesty lime blends with floral notes on to a delicate, fruity palate.

Light and breezy Garganega, this has an attractive herb, pear and greengage character with a touch of roundness and a soft but insinuating acidity.'

Wow! What a beautiful fragrant wine, a hint of Muscat without the associated over sweetness of that grape, and a sharp freshness that could only be Italian Richard
I felt compelled to check where I bought it from and then to tell anyone who cares to read this that it's very, very quaffable Alan

The Producer

Sourcing grapes from over 700 hectares of vineyards and 250 growers, the Cantina Valpantena is one of Italy's largest and best co-operatives, situated in the Valpantena valley, north of the city of Verona. Established in 1958, the co-operative now makes wines from the surrounding appellations, with the Torre del Falasco wines showing their commitment to quality.

The Winemaker

Consultant winemaker Matt Thomson, who makes some of our other wines around the world, has been consulting at the Cantina since 1999.

The Region

With cool mountain breezes blowing directly down from the Dolomites and limestone soils on steeply sloped vineyards, the Valpantena valley in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy is the perfect location for the production of both red and white wines. This is Valpolicella country, the grapes for which are grown on the steeply terraced hillside vineyards belonging to the cooperative, where soils are chalky and poor.

Freshness and depth

A light tasting wine yet comes with a bit of depth to its character. Not too minerally either. A very drinkable, refreshing wine.

Citrus zest

For those that like their wines to have a citrus zest this is probably a five star wine. Personally I prefer Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay but still very much enjoyed this wine though the zest was slightly overdone for my taste.

Refreshing easy-drinking wine.

I was very impressed with this lovely wine which is one of the best whites I have tried. It has a strong pleasant bouquet without being overpowering. After a first whiff I anticipated a great wine and was not disappointed. It is very refreshing and has an excellent finish. I recently included this wine in my presentation at the wine club section of my local bowls club and everyone really enjoyed it, rating it very highly, even the most critical members.

An enjoyable surprise

Very much enjoyed this wine with quiche and salad today, so much so that contrary to my usual attitude to being determined never to review anything at all, I felt compelled to check where I bought it from and then to tell anyone who cares to read this that it's very, very quaffable. Crisp and refreshing, and not too alcoholic. No, I didn't drink the whole bottle, but I could have, very easily.

Summer wine for all occasions

Just enjoyed this wine with barbecue steak and salad. The fruit and zest balance worked well and left a clean fruit on the palate. Can't wait to try this wine with a creamy pasta dish maybe with some salmon.

Crab Cakes

The delicate crab meat calls for a smooth, fruity, floral white which doesn't overpower the meat - try light, northern Italian whites like the Garganega Antiche Terre which naturally complements seafood dishes.

Spaghetti Carbonara

A classic Italian recipe, this surprisingly rich dish needs a crisp, mineral white to add a hint of freshness - Veneto or Southern French whites are a perfect pairing.

Lemon & Parsley Fishcakes

A great lunch or supper option served with green salad or chips, (depending on your attitude), these light fish cakes are crying out for a fresh, zingy Garganega to pair up with the lemon and parsley notes in the dish.
