A versatile blend from the stunning Dão region. Winemaker Beatriz Cabral de Almeida has taken the well-known Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz with lesser-known Alfrocheiro and Jaen Tinto to create a bouquet of berry aromas, soft tannins and more-ish mouthwatering acidity.
Expect strawberry, blackberry and red cherry making this a very appealing wine that goes with many dishes from arancini to beef brisket. You could think of this as a Portuguese Beaujolais.

Beatriz Cabral de Almeida does it again with this beautiful, bright, Dão blend.

The Producer

At Quinta dos Carvalhais the wines are made under the watchful eye of Porto born Beatriz Cabral de Almeida. Beatriz has spent her life making wine around the Portuguese wine regions of Porto, Alentejo and more recently, Dão.

Quinta dos Carvalhais is a 105-hectare estate, that sits between 465 - 500 meters above sea level. 50 hectares of the estate are under vine, producing red and white modern wines from native Portuguese varieties. The estate was bought by the Guedes family in 1988 and their aim is to show the best of what Portugal can produce.


The grapes are sourced from the Mangualde commune of the Dão. They are destemmed and crushed before being quickly transferred to their stainless steel fermentation tasks. The wine only undergoes 5 days of fermentation but serval rounds of pumping over to extract all the desired colour, flavours and aromas from the skins. It then undergoes malolactic fermentation and spend time in the tank settling before being bottled.

Various estates surrounding the Quinta dos Carvalhais vineyards produce grapes for the winery (or 'Quinta' in Portuguese) allowing for more variety in the blends and to ensure the quality.

The Region

The Dão region is surrounded by mountains that protect it from the influence of both the continental climate and the cold and rain influence of the Atlantic ocean.

The region produces a selection of fine red and white wines that are well balanced due to the variety of vine growing areas. Warmer in the west, cooler in the north and east. The winemakers are spoilt for choice. They have the option to plant their vines from sea level, up to 800m and on a variety of soils, both of which also influences vine growth, health, flavour and concentration.

The locals say that the region might have been created with winemaking in mind – you couldn’t wish for better conditions.
