The estate uses only organic fertilisers in the vineyards and care is taken at every step of the winemaking process to ensure that all wines are produced in the most environmentally friendly manner. A recent addition to the Domaines Paul Mas collection in 2013, this 100ha estate lies near Carcassonne. Vines are planted on an old saltwater marsh, so in winter they’re deliberately flooded to reduce the salt content of the soils.

It’s also an area where phylloxera can’t survive, meaning they can plant ungrafted vines in these special soils. These cover some 18 different grape varieties, certified by Terra Vitis for its sustainable practices.

Our buyer was struck by the brilliant Chardonnay, and so we decided to ship directly to bring it to you at the best possible price.

Domaine de Pellehaut is a family-owned property and chateau with 250 hectares of vines grown on slopes of up to 180m in altitude. The proximity to the Pyrenees provide a welcome shelter from bad weather, with very low rainfall and warm, sunny summers. Brothers Martin and Mathieu Beraut produce wines from both local and well-known grape varieties, including our very own Rude Reserve Blanc, a blend of Colombard and Chardonnay, with a smattering of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng and Ugni Blanc.

Fruity Pork

Succulent roast pork with a rich fruity sauce needs a wine with ripe, generous fruit and crisp, mineral acidity to balance out the sweetness of the sauce. We'd go for a ripe, new world white such as Chenin Blanc with enough weight to take on the meat and fruit combination. Full recipe

Well balanced

Smooth, though initially a slight tartness that beautifully yields to a fruity, smooth juicy finish.
Most enjoyable!

White wine, excellent, easy to the taste with fish, or on it's own. Shall probably order as gifts for friends at Christmas. Again, well done Mr Blender.

Rude Reserve

My wife is a white wine drinker and after popping this into my basket last week - she said, it's a great refreshing zesty white, instructed to purchase more.

Freshness and depth

A light tasting wine yet comes with a bit of depth to its character. Not too minerally either. A very drinkable, refreshing wine.

By Douglas on 17th October 2018

"

Citrus zest

For those that like their wines to have a citrus zest this is probably a five star wine. Personally I prefer Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay but still very much enjoyed this wine though the zest was slightly overdone for my taste.

By Steve on 27th June 2018

Italian

Wow! What a beautiful fragrant wine, a hint of Muscat without the associated over sweetness of that grape, and a sharp freshness that could only be Italian

By Richard on 27th February 2018

"

Refreshing easy-drinking wine.

I was very impressed with this lovely wine which is one of the best whites I have tried. It has a strong pleasant bouquet without being overpowering. After a first whiff I anticipated a great wine and was not disappointed. It is very refreshing and has an excellent finish. I recently included this wine in my presentation at the wine club section of my local bowls club and everyone really enjoyed it, rating it very highly, even the most critical members.

By Dave on 11th February 2018

"

An enjoyable surprise

Very much enjoyed this wine with quiche and salad today, so much so that contrary to my usual attitude to being determined never to review anything at all, I felt compelled to check where I bought it from and then to tell anyone who cares to read this that it's very, very quaffable. Crisp and refreshing, and not too alcoholic. No, I didn't drink the whole bottle, but I could have, very easily.

By Alan on 22nd January 2018

"

Summer wine for all occasions

Just enjoyed this wine with barbecue steak and salad. The fruit and zest balance worked well and left a clean fruit on the palate. Can't wait to try this wine with a creamy pasta dish maybe with some salmon.

By Alex on 13th June 2017

"

First Class Chenin

Drink it straight from the fridge and enjoy this as a great aperitif. Or match it with fish or chicken and it's complex ripe flavours come through - pow... We made chicken with a herb, cheese and lemon crust and the Chenin matched it perfectly. We loved this wine - how can it be so fruity and dry too? Looking forward to ordering more!

By Paul on 29th April 2017

"

Oysters

Ideal with oysters! Taste of oyster grit fruit de mer!

By Pamela on 11th February 2019

Lovely bouquet and enjoyed the dry crispness.
