If You Like Sauvignon Blanc...
If You Like Sauvignon Blanc... If You Like Sauvignon Blanc... If You Like Sauvignon Blanc...

Sauvignon Blanc wines have taken the UK by storm in recent years, becoming our top white wine. Taking that unmistakable whiff of nettles, gooseberries, and crushed blackcurrant leaf, and a lip-smacking refreshment that's unlike no other white, we've collated the perfect case for you.

Classics from the Loire, South Africa and Chile make up half the case, letting you explore how Sauvignon changes depending on where it's grown.

Then we thought what else you'd like if Savvy's your thing, and put some white wines in that we're confident you'll find just as tasty. Rude Reserve Blanc, Spanish Verdejo and South African Chenin - all great wines for Sauvignon fans.

So you love Sauvignon Blanc wines? Join the club; it seems it's everyone's white wine of the moment (and has been for ages, in fact). Taking a half-dozen of the best Sauvignon's around, we then thought long and hard about other wines you'd like, to make up the second part of the case

Top 10 Best-Selling White Wine

Very good indeed. If you like decent fragrant New Zealand Sauvignon's (Think Villa Maria, Brancott Estate) then you'll love this! Justin

Heavenly. I really enjoyed this, well, I am a fan of Chilean wines, of all colours anyway... I loved it. I shall doubtless return. Thank you Rude. Julian

The Producer

Family owned winery Casas del Bosque was founded in 1993 by Juan Cuneo Solari. The son of an Italian immigrant, he had always dreamed of having his own vineyard and chanced upon an area of the Casablanca Valley, 100k due west of Santiago, with its pine forests, olive groves and small, white abandoned adobe houses. He chose to name the winery Casas del Bosque, or “Houses of the Forest.” The winemaking team are evangelical about translating the character of the vineyard and grape in to the final wine, using longer than average skin contact to extract extra flavour from the grapes. Some vineyards are under organic management and the winery is currently beginning the process towards Wines of Chile Sustainability Certification, which is the first step on the way to organic certification.

Chilean Fish Stew

Pair rich fish stews with vibrant, zesty whites such as Sauvignon Blanc which have enough fruit flavour to balance out the punchy garlic, herbs and tomatoes. As the Casas del Bosque Sauvignon is from Chile, it would be Rude not to pair them.

The wines come from the family run winery established by the three Parra brothers (Francisco, Javier and Luis) in 1993. The brothers had the foresight to move to organic and then biodynamic viticulture early. The vineyards of central Spain enjoy a reliable rainfall and hot dry conditions allowing for good harvests and fully developed grapes and flavours.

Meet our very own contender for best value French white wine. You'll probably already know that Gascony, in South-West France, is high on the list for great wines, especially whites and rosés that won't cost the earth. That's why we headed there to put together our own 'house' white, and it's a real stunner.

Domaine de Pellehaut is a family-owned property and chateau with 250 hectares of vines grown on slopes of up to 180m in altitude. The proximity to the Pyrenees provide a welcome shelter from bad weather, with very low rainfall and warm, sunny summers. Brothers Martin and Mathieu Beraut produce wines from both local and well-known grape varieties, including our very own Rude Reserve Blanc, a blend of Colombard and Chardonnay, with a smattering of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng and Ugni Blanc.

Gary's parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 146 hectare farm in 1982 and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specialising in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes. Gary and Cathy worked internationally for two years, refining their high energy instincts with practical experience. They returned home in 1992 to build a new cellar and begin the winemaking odyssey that has cemented their position as one of the key players in the South African wine industry.

Fruity Pork

Succulent roast pork with a rich fruity sauce needs a wine with ripe, generous fruit and crisp, mineral acidity to balance out the sweetness of the sauce. We'd go for a ripe, new world white such as Chenin Blanc with enough weight to take on the meat and fruit combination. Full recipe

Small in size but large in stature, Edgebaston consists of just 22 hectares of vines. David oversees all vineyard and winemaking activity, with a holistic and quality-driven approach. The estate uses only organic fertilisers in the vineyards and care is taken at every step of the winemaking process to ensure that all wines are produced in the most environmentally friendly manner. The wines are enticing, fresh and pure, with an underlying but unmistakable European influence. As you might have guessed, awards are ten-a-penny, with Edgebaston wines regularly receiving top points in South African wine bible, The Platter Guide and the winery a winner in The Wine Merchant Top 100 awards.

First Class Chenin

Drink it straight from the fridge and enjoy this as a great aperitif. Or match it with fish or chicken and it's complex ripe flavours come through - pow... We made chicken with a herb, cheese and lemon crust and the Chenin matched it perfectly. We loved this wine - how can it be so fruity and dry too? Looking forward to ordering more!
