This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the sunny vineyards of South Eastern Australia is a bit of a find: for starters, you tend to see Cabernet blended with a little or a lot of other grapes - here you'll find it in the leading role. Secondly, the wine is matured in stainless steel, so the intense aromatic quality and fresh blackcurrant fruit is in ready supply. Add a hint of mocha, spice and mint and you've got yourself a wine that punches far above its weight.

Buy this if...you're a Cabernet lover.

Pure, ripe Cabernet with a rich, warming palate.

The Producer

Taking its name from the famed Australian bird, the Kookaburra, the Laughing Bird series takes classic grapes and turns them in to smooth, easy drinking wines. The grapes are specially selected from small parcels of vines in South Eastern Australia, chosen for their slow-ripening potential.

Winemaking

The vines are carefully cultivated, with low yields producing intensely-flavoured grapes of outstanding quality. The Cabernet is matured in stainless steel to preserve the fruit character.

The Region

The South-East Australia wine zone includes the states of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales and produces wines from a variety of different vineyard sites across the smaller regions. While these can be inexpensive blended wines, some producers also use this as a way to create their own personal blends of regional styles.

Enjoyed

It is a great label and a great wine. It's so smooth and fruity.

Honey and Chilli Barbecued Steak

Delicious come rain or shine, the sweet tang and juicy steak will compliment a big fruity red – give it a try!

Spanish Beef & Chorizo Stew

Spicy, rich stews need a medium bodied red with bright fruit flavours. Try a smooth Tempranillo or a bright New World red.

Fromage Fort

A brilliant recipe to use up odds and ends of cheese - your final wine choice will depend slightly on which cheeses you use but plump for a smooth, fruity red and you won't be far wrong.
