It is the largest appellation in the northern Rhône, but Crozes-Hermitage isn't as well known for its white wines as it is for its reds. They're well worth discovering, with wines like this stunning 100% Marsanne a case in point.

The aim with Maison Les Alexandrins' wine is always to coax the best from the tough terrain of the Rhône Valley. Vineyards at Les Pends give freshness and a 'mineral' character, whilst those further south at Chanos Curson give length and body.

Fresh citrus and apple aromas leap out at you from the glass, the palate is richly rounded with a hint of apricot kernel and a nice toasty character. Marsanne's a grape variety you'll love if fuller styles of white wine appeal (like Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay).

Three heads are better than one. At least when you've Nicolas Jaboulet, Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso combining their expert knowledge of the Rhône. Formidable winemaking from a trio at the very top of their game

The Producer

In 2015 “Domaine et Maison Les Alexandrins” was established. It is a collaboration of three figures of Northern Rhone winemaking. Nicolas Jaboulet, 6th generation of a winegrowing family in Tain l’Hermitage, Guillaume Sorrel, son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage, and Alexandre Caso, specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhone

This collaboration made it possible for the three to pursue the dream of making Northern Rhone wines that embody pure classicism. They do this by buying parcels of fruit from some of the top growers in each appellation in the Northern Rhône.

Winemaking

Maison Les Alexandrins is a natural evolution of former Maison Nicolas Perrin.
The aim of Maison Les Alexandrins is to modern winemaking to the Northern Rhône, they buy parcels of fruit from some of the top growers in each appellation in the Northern Rhône and produce wines with a more contemporary style.
The wines show a more varied palette of Northern Rhone wines. The range invites the world to look at and interpret the traditions of the Northern Rhone Valley from a new perspective.
This blend of 60% Marsanne and 40% Roussanne is produced of grapes from Chassis Est, Gervans and les Pends areas. Traditional vinification and ageing are carried out. The wine was aged on the lees in old barrels for five months and then in stainless steel tanks for a few more months, to add body and complexity before bottling.

The Region

Crozes-Hermitage is the biggest appellation of the Northern Rhône with over 1300 hectares. It spreads over 11 localities in the Drôme on the left bank of the Rhône River.
The grapes for this wine comes from "Les Pends", the northern granite slopes of the Mecurol village and stony soils Chanos Curson in the south, both villages are renowned for the production of Crozes-Hermitage Blanc.
Winemaker Nicolas Jaboulet says "We aim to keep the finesse and minerality with the vines from Les Pends and at the same time, length and body thanks to the vines from Chanos Curson."
