This medium dry Grand Cru Gewurztraminer hails from the village of Bennwihr where Michel Fonné's estate is situated. You'll find an intensely aromatic nose, complete with honeysuckle, lychee and sweet spice, while the palate is rich and luscious, full-blown honeyed flavours with hints of tropical fruit and a refreshing citrusy finish. This surprisingly versatile wine will pair beautifully with blue cheese but try it with medium-spiced curries to shake things up a bit. It's also the proud owner of 93/100 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Buy this if...you can't resist luscious honeyed Gewurztraminer.

A voluptuous, honeyed Gewurztraminer - hold onto your seats, it's going to be emotional.

The Producer

The small, family-run estate of Domaine Michel Fonné can be found in the commune of Bennwihr, just north of Colmar. Twelve hectares of vineyard, including the Grand Cru Marckrain, are cultivated with all seven Alsatian varietals. More than 80% of the total production is now exported around the world.

The Winemaker

Owner and winemaker Michel Fonné qualified as a winemaker from Dijon and got hands on experience in Champagne and in the Alexander Valley in California. He returned in 1989 to take over the reins of his uncle René Barth’s estate.

The Region

Acting as a natural barrier against bad weather, the Vosges Mountains have a starring role in the success story of Alsatian wines. The east facing slopes are sunny warm and perfect for grape growing, with very low rainfall for such a northerly region.

Stunning

An amazingly versatile wine. Goes particularly well with a Yorkshire special, Cheese and Rich Fruit Cake.

Fig and Blue Cheese Tart

The ripe, salty tang of blue cheese contrast brilliantly with the luscious, dried fruit notes of fortified wines with rich, caramel flavours.

Chicken and Mango Salad

Try a ripe fruity white with a fair dose of residual sugar to stand up to the sweetness of the sauce.

Duck Glazed with Plum & Soy

A Chinese-inspired duck dish with both fruity and savoury elements. Try a ripe, medium dry Gewurztraminer to complement the ripe fruit in the dish.
