Montañar means 'mountainous', and the winery takes its name from the Serrania de Cuenca mountain range in Castilla-La Mancha. Produced in the biodynamic and family run winery of the Parra brothers this merlot shows intense ruby colours, fresh and dried fruit aromas of plums and blueberries with silky soft tannins.

One glass won't be enough!

Dangerously easy-drinking organic Merlot.

The Producer

The wines come from the family run winery established by the three Parra brothers (Francisco, Javier and Luis) in 1993. The brothers had the foresight to move to organic and then biodynamic viticulture early. The vineyards of central Spain enjoy a reliable rainfall and hot dry conditions allowing for good harvests and fully developed grapes nad flavours.

The Winemaker

All of the grapes are grown both organically and biodynamically – the vineyards have been certified organic since 1997 and biodynamic since 2012 because the brothers feel they get the best fruit this way. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and have undergone no ageing to ensure the brightest fruit flavours.

The Region

The dry and windy climate of La Mancha makes it easier to practice organic and biodynamic viticulture because fungal diseases are unable to thrive in in these conditions. Harvest is in August and the grapes are often picked at night to ensure fresh flavours and fruit character.

Love Merlot

Un-oaked is my kind of enjoyable go to wine.

Sausages with Mushrooms & Olives

Quick to prepare and packed with flavour, this sausage stew will work well with smooth, medium-bodied earthy reds with red fruit flavours, just like Spanish Merlot.

Puy Lentil Bolognese

A rich, earthy, veggie sauce will complement a bright, plummy red from Syrah or Merlot - try an approachable Cotes du Rhone or Central Spanish reds. Give the La Mancha region a try.

Peppers Stuffed with Beef

The combination of creamy meat filling in the deep-fried sweet peppers is a great match for medium bodied, velvety reds like our Montanar Organic Merlot.
