New Year Wine Rack Essentials

Just leaning towards a red wine bias, you've seven red and five white wines to enjoy. They've been carefully chosen to appeal to as many palates as possible too.

Reds with plenty of upfront fruit flavours, nothing too tannic or overpowering. Whites that are crisply refreshing, with lots of juicy flavours. Yet you'll pinch yourself when you taste them. Can wines this good really be a reasonable £6.67 a bottle?

Usually, of course, they'd be a good bit more. But in this big value case, that's exactly how much they'll cost.

Wines you'll love drinking at a high street-beating price.

Enjoy both red and white wines? Need to recharge your wine rack after a busy Christmas? Appreciate a good glass of wine, but would rather stick to a good budget? Then start 2019 with this case, designed to give you great wines at a cracking price Save 18%

The history of Carinena has been closely related with wine for many centuries and the reputation of its wines are now being recognised around the world. In 1415 when the King of Spain heard that Fernando 1 of Aragon was planning a trip to Nice he asked Fernando to take with him some of the wines from Carinena. In 2002 a new modern winery was built with state of the art facilities but keeping many of the good traditions of Spanish winemaking.

Feijoada

A robust, flavoursome Portuguese pork stew that's not for the faint-hearted, this needs a full, ripe red wine to stand up to the porky flavours. Full recipe

Alta Corte 2016, Lisboa

1 review(s)

A blend of the rare Caladoc grape with Tinta Roriz, this wine is all juicy fruit. Yes, a light sense of structure gives the wine shape, but the bold berry fruits give it a refreshing, ready-to-drink character. Enjoy now. Wine Enthusiast 87 pts

The Producer

Founded by wine-making legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DJF Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.

Sicilian gem! Really liked this smooth syrah from Sicily. It was packed full of blackberry fruit but had a hint of peppery-ness.
