Chinon is perhaps best known for producing the Loire Valley's most famous red wines. Here you've got a certified organic Chinon that's clearly aimed at provoking a 'lightbulb' moment (hence the name 'Ampoule', French for a lightbulb, and the label).

Expect those delicate blackcurrant leaf aromas, with a hint of pencil shavings (really; a hallmark of Loire Cab Franc wines), and a wonderfully refreshing mouthfeel. Light red wine, but not thin or weak (it's 12.5%). It'll work well lightly chilled too (experiment, but 20-30 mins in the fridge should be fine).

It'll continue to improve for up to five years (mature Chinon is quite a thing now too).

Here's a fresh, organic take on Chinon wine. The Marchesseau brothers have come up with a real beauty, silky, elegant, and velvety. Great summer wine, plus for when you don't want a red wine to overpower more delicate dishes

The Producer

Brothers Bertrand and Vincent Marchesseau's estate is located in the heart of the Loire Valley vineyards at Bourgueil.
Bertrand works in the vineyard and winemaking and Vincent in Marketing and Sales. They aim for consistent quality and achieve it through rigorous work in the vineyard, winemaking and thtough careful ageing to reveal the best of each wine.

The Winemaker

Bertrand Marchesseau produces wine from Appellations Bourgueil, Chinon and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil.
He develops different wines depending on the soil: clay and limestone hillsides, pebble stone soil or sand-gravel terraces and ages the wines for 6 to 18 months before bottling.

The Region

The Marchesseau estate is located in the heart of the Loire Valley vineyards at Bourgueil. The varied soils of the surrounding areas allow for a variety of grapes to be grown and styles of wine to be made. Dry to sweet, still to sparkling.

Blackened Steak With Red Wine Jus

A simple rump steak calls for a full-bodied red to square up to the dense structure of the meat. Head to rich, structured reds with some oak ageing to give a touch of spice. Try a Chinon from the Loire, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Barbequed Garlic and Herb Mushrooms

When you think barbecue, it doesn't have to be just meat. This simple and tasty vegan recipe takes delicious large mushrooms (Portobello would be ideal), add some tasty herbs, and that smoky taste that everyone loves. The strong savoury flavours pair really well with our Marchesseau Organic Chinon 'Ampoule'.
