Award-winning winemaker Philip Shaw produces this delicious Pinot Noir from high altitude vineyards in Orange, New South Wales. You'll find a richly aromatic style, full of ripe summer pudding fruit laced with powdery tannins, savoury and more exotic spice.

Buy this if...you want light body, full on flavour.

‘A resounding success, there's elegance and delicacy aplenty here. A must-try, surprise package from Philip Shaw's elevated Koomooloo vineyard.’

The Producer

Searching for the ideal site to plant a vineyard proved to be a 20 year journey for winemaker Philip Shaw but the final choice came by accident as he flew over the rolling hills of Orange in New South Wales in 1988. Further investigation revealed a wonderful balance of sunshine, soil, differing aspects and of course the high altitude at 900m above sea level that contributes to the unique freshness and concentration in the wines. The 47 hectares of vineyard are on the slopes of the now extinct volcano Mt Canobolas, making it one of the highest vineyards in Australia. Philip Shaw was recently named a Five Star winery in the James Halliday Wine Guide 2018.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

"From vineyards at 900 metres altitude in Orange, 200 kilometres west of Sydney and a somewhat under the radar region that’s increasingly recognised for the quality of its cooler-climate varieties. It’s fascinating to compare this with the Chapuis Bourgogne Pinot from Rude Wines, this too with similar alcohol and a similar delicate and translucent colour. Great ‘Pinosity’ here, briar and underbrush, some gamy aromatics, but ripe and full fruit in the mouth, with medium-body but no lack of sweet fruit substance"

The Region

Located approximately 260km west of Sydney on the slopes of the Great Dividing Ranges, the Orange vineyards beging at around 600m above sea level, rising to 1,100m. The high altitude of the Koomooloo vineyard offers cool ripening conditions and high levels of ultra-violet light which greatly assist in flavour and colour development of the berries and a long cool ripening season with low rainfall.

Charcuterie Board

Cured meats match perfectly with light reds with a hint of sweetness, with the fresh, juicy fruit in the wine contrasting with the smoked/salty flavours in the meats. The Wire Walker Pinot Noir is just the ticket for a charcuterie board.

Wild Mushroom and Lentil Salad

An easy to prepare mid-week supper on its own or as a side dish with meat, this warm salad has plenty of gusty flavours which need a supple, silky red with soft tannins. We'd recommend the Philip Shaw The Wire Walker Pinot Noir, you won't be disappointed.
