Some might say this is like a bargain Sancerre rosé. We wouldn't, since that would diminish the deliciousness of the Sancerre. However, if you enjoy rosé wines, then it's a superb Pinot Noir wine from the Loire Valley.

Delicately fruity, its aromas offer up hints of watermelons, raspberries, strawberries, and crabapple. This medley of summery smells is followed by a mouth-wateringly crisp, tangy bunch of flavours upon the first sip.

This is the kind of rosé wine that when it's gone, you'll wish you had another bottle in the fridge. So you'd better be sure to put at least two in your basket.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

"Pinot Noir is the main grape of pink and red wines from the eastern part of the Loire Valley, around Sancerre - much less well known than the Sauvignon Blanc white wines of course, but making very attractive wines, though normally on the pricy side. This Loire rosé is therefore a bit of bargain really, a delicate rose-hip and herb nose, a touch lemon too, onto a palate that is clean and fresh, those tart red berry flavours of redcurrant and raspberry super-fresh, very good acidity, and a tiny dollop of sweetness just off-setting to make this highly sippable. "

The Region

The climate in the Nantais region is very different to that of the rest of the Loire Valley. With close proximity to the Atlantic, the climate is temperate and wetter than vineyards further inland, with poor soils ideally suited to make fresh, dry whites.

Duck Breast With Wild Mushrooms and Cream

The rich, fatty flavours of duck, combined with creamy mushrooms call for a soft, smooth red with fresh fruit flavours. Head to light or medium bodied reds - fruity Pinot Noir, Grenache or Pinotage pair well. Or even, a Loire Rosé for something a little lighter.

Tartiflette

The rich combination of potato, cheese, bacon and garlic could stop anyone in their tracks so pick ripe reds with good acidity or structured whites and rosé which will both cut through the delicious stodge! Our Domaine Pichon Pinot Noir Rosé is a great match.

Mediterranean Wild Mushroom and Lentil Salad

An easy to prepare mid-week supper on its own or as a side-dish with meat, this warm salad has plenty of gutsy flavours which needs a Domaine Pichon Pinot Noir Rosé to match.
