A blend of classic and native grapes of Portugal, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Caladoc, Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. The blend brings all the best aspects of each variety together into a crescendo of berry fruits and beautiful balance.

"Pomar" means orchard in Portuguese and this reflects the host of fig and olive trees on the property and in the surrounding area. We like to think that it is also an example of just one of the places you could sit to relax and enjoy a glass of Pomar with an array of meats, cheese, or even some Mexican food.

It’s fruity, tasty, very pleasant and elegant. Excellent with food or by itself.

The Producer

Founded by winemaking legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DJF Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.

The Winemaker

"José’s winemaking CV is as impressive as the wines themselves. With both his mothers and fathers' families involved in winemaking, José and his seven brothers and sisters grew up on the Quinta de Porto Francos estate, now part of the DJF estate and one of the oldest in the region. With nearly 40 years’ experience in winemaking under his belt, José honed his skills at co-operative wineries and as a consultant to independent producers all over Europe.
In the words of Tim Atkin MW: “José deserves great credit for his contribution to the transformation of Portuguese wine. He is equally adept at making top end wines as he is producing inexpensive mass market blends, using international and local grapes with considerable skill. The Portuguese wine revolution wouldn't have happened without him.“

The Region

Sunshine is not in short supply in this picturesque region of rolling hills, yet cooling Atlantic breezes allow for a long, slow ripening period for the grapes which lends a fresh, elegant touch to the wines. A total of seventeen grape varieties are grown across a wide area with white varieties are planted in cooler vineyards nearer the ocean, red varieties in warmer vineyards further inland. Extensive research is always on the cards, and José is credited with the introduction of several new varietals to the region including Albarino, Pinot Noir and more recently Dornfelder.
