Cracking Syrah red wine from South Africa's hippest wine region right now, Swartland. Famous for dry-farmed old vines which give wonderfully flavour-packed grapes. It's a red of real character, offering mulberry and spice and is brilliant value for money too. Try as an alternative to your usual Shiraz.

This is a superb wine, nice smooth taste which goes down very well. Highly recommended. Kevin

The Producer

Every region, every grape, every winemaker and every vintage has a story to tell. The Raconteur brings the originality, individuality and personality of the wine to the fore and uses it as a means to engage the consumer and enliven the brand.

The Winemaker

The wine was fermented at low temperature in order to retain the fruit character and then left on its lees for 6 months in stainless steel before bottling.

The Region

Situated to the north of Cape Town, Swartland is low-lying and with a semi-arid climate, and sandy topsoils on weathered rock. This soils is particularly good at holding water, which is a good thing in these very dry vineyards!

Duck Breast with Wild Mushrooms & Cream

The rich, fatty flavours of duck, combined with creamy mushrooms call for a soft, smooth red with fresh fruit flavours. Head to light or medium-bodied reds like the Raconteur Syrah.

Potatoes with Chorizo

Spicy, rich stews need a medium-bodied red with bright fruit flavours. Try a smooth fruity Syrah from Swartland, South Africa.

Lamb Sosaties

Rich lamb chops with herby potatoes screams open fire and red wine, so try a soft, fruit-driven New World Merlot or Syrah - South African styles offer enough richness and spice.
