Expert blender Yvan Meyer helped us source this zesty white from Domaine de Pellehaut in the Côtes de Gascogne in south-west France, where owners Martin and Mathieu Beraut farm 250 hectares of vines against the stunning backdrop of the Pyrenees. This is a blend of Colombard and Chardonnay, with a smattering of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng and Ugni Blanc - fresh and bright, with aromatic citrus notes and a mouth-watering, juicy palate.

Buy this if...you're after a change of scene.

There's a new white in town - our own house wine full of aromatic citrussy fruit wrapped up in a mouth-watering package.

The Producer

Domaine de Pellehaut is a family-owned property and chateau with 250 hectares of vines grown on slopes of up to 180m in altitude. The proximity to the Pyrenees provide a welcome shelter from bad weather, with very low rainfall and warm, sunny summers. Brothers Martin and Mathieu Beraut produce wines from both local and well-known grape varieties, including our very own Rude Reserve Blanc, a blend of Colombard and Chardonnay, with a smattering of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng and Ugni Blanc.

The Winemaker

The estate operates a ‘lutte raisonnée’ approach to viticulture, preferring the use of organic fertilisers produced on the estate and minimal or no use of pesticides. Grapes are harvested during the cool of the night to preserve the aromatic qualities of these fresh wines and modern techniques used in the winery with an eye to keeping the character of the grape and local character.

The Region

The beautiful Gers region may be one of France’s lesser-known tourist hotspots but then, off-the-beaten-track finds are often the best. Sitting in the heart of the south-west corner of France, this rural landscape, with the stunning backdrop of the Pyrenees, is home to the Côtes de Gascogne, now France’s largest white wine producing area.

Rude Reserve

White wine, excellent, easy to the taste with fish, or on it's own. Shall probably order as gifts for friends at Christmas.
Again, well done Mr Blender.

My Favourite Rudeness so far

I love white wine but unfortunately for my husband's wallet I prefer the expensive end so he is thoroughly relieved that this is my new favourite as it is SO reasonable. It has such a clean taste, refreshing, delicious and what I've been waiting a long time to enjoy. Thanks Rude Wines.

Rude Reserve

My wife is a white wine drinker and after popping this into my basket last week - she said, it's a great refreshing zesty white, instructed to purchase more.

Spicy Fish Braai

Super-simple but very effective, the spicy marinade on barbecued hake combines sweetness, heat and plenty of flavour. Try a tropical-fruited, aromatic white wine such as a Cotes de Gascogne blend.

Salmon & Grains Salad

This ultra-healthy herby number needs a floral citrussy white with a good weight of fruit.

Chilean Fish Stew

Pair rich fish stews with vibrant, zesty whites such as Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc which have enough fruit flavour to balance out the punchy garlic, herbs and tomatoes.
