The Producer
Howard and Angus go way back. They taught sailing and drank multiple gins together at Salcombe yacht club so it’s no surprise that they decided to continue their youth and make a business out of it.
The distillery was built in 2015 and the awards have been flooding in since 2017.
The recipe is a blend of 13 botanicals and is said to be “Inspired by the cargo manifest lists from the old Salcombe Fruiters trading routes”. How the final blend is developed was “part science, part magic”.
The Distillers
Salcombe Gin is hand-crafted in a 450l copper pot still, each batch is distilled with the signature blend of 13 fruits and botanicals then combined with Dartmoor water to produce an exceptionally smooth gin.
Salcombe use a more traditional approach known as the ‘one shot’ method. They distil according to the ‘London Dry’ standard, although they like to think of it as ‘Devon dry’; London dry with Devon sunshine.
Salcombe, Devon
Salcombe is Devon’s southernmost coastal town and Salcombe Gin’s beautiful distillery and bar is nestled on Island street in the traditional boat building quarter of Salcombe, now also renowned for its growing arts scene.
