Always a great value white, Soave originates from Italy’s Veneto region and is made from the Garganega grape. This premium example was made from fruit grown on the Montegrande single vineyard by consultant winemaker Matt Thomson and aged in barrels for a year before bottling. It's textbook Soave, with aromatic white blossom and almond notes and a rounded, honeyed palate with a refreshing flash of citrus peel.

Beautifully balanced, food-friendly style. Delicious almondy, lemon nose and waiting to be poured into a glass near you.

The Producer

The Cantina di Monteforte co-op is situated in the eastern part of the Soave region, with 1,200 hectares of vineyard in total, part in Soave Classico and part outside the Classico zone. The co-op has an unrivalled selection of the best vineyards in the area, with 60% on the hills, facing south and south east, giving wines that are riper and fuller than most others that are produced in Soave. The grapes for this single vineyard wine are grown in the “Montegrande” vineyard which is a hillside site facing south and south east, with superb exposure and the vines are on average 30 years old.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

Soave is one of those white wine names that seem to have been a cheap and cheerful staple of the UK wine scene for ever. But many people are attempting something more ambitious with Soave, such as this example from volcanic soils, the old-vine Garganega grapes harvested late and the wine aged for one year in barrel. There’s a hint of gold to the bright green colour, and a very attractive bouquet that blends fresh, apple-blossom notes with almond and oatmeal creaminess. In the mouth, beautifully ripe and juicy fruit is sharply defined by very good acidity, and softened by the barrel ageing to give a long, nicely balanced finish.

The Region

The Veneto region, with its unique position between the Alpine foothills and the Adriatic sea produces a dizzying array of styles, from sparkling whites to sweet reds. The cooling sea and mountain breezes allow for the production of crisp, floral white wines, including Soave, Prosecco and the now famous Pinot Grigio delle Venezie.

Gorgonzola stuffed Chicken Breast wrapped in Pancetta

Plump for a ripe, fruity white such as Soave to contrast with the salty tang that the pancetta and cheese bring to the dish. Our Soave Superiore Classico will definitely stand up to the challenge.

Prawn Croquettes

A great snack or tapas dish, these prawn croquettes just need a drop of Soave to set them off!

Crab Cakes

The delicate crab meat calls for a smooth, fruity, floral white which doesn't overpower the meat - try Mediterranean whites such as those from the Garganega grape. It will naturally complement seafood dishes.
