The Producer

Set in the idyllic rolling hills of the Veneto’s Pre-Alps, the Val d’Oca co-operative was established in 1952 by a handful of grape growers who saw the benefits of co-operation as a solution to face the economic difficulties of the post-war period. They couldn’t have envisaged what a good idea that was at the time – the co-operative has now grown to 576 members with over 700 hectares of vineyards, enabling smaller farmers to continue working the land.

Château Cassemichère Rosè 2017, Loire

0 review(s)

Here's a rosè wine that should be in every fridge this summer. It's a blend of three grape varieties from the Loire, made by a rather good Muscadet producer. It's the sort of rosè wine that has no pretences, just aimed at giving you maximum enjoyment

Château Cassemichère in the Loire Valley is better known for its white Muscadet wines. In fact, it was the first place recorded that Melon de Bourgogne (which makes Muscadet) was planted, by monks who'd brought it from Burgundy.

Now they have 45 hectares of vineyard dedicated to producing fine Loire wines.

Prawn Croquettes

Be amazed at how such a jam-packed-with-flavour wine can just be 12.5% alcohol. Thanks to grapes ripened in the idyllic Douro Valley, and the magic touch of top winemaker Luís Sottomayor. Portuguese wine that gives astounding value for money

The Producer

World-class winemaker Luís Sottomayor first produced Douro Valley's Vila Regina in 1989, long before table wines were being made in the fortified production dominated valley.

The grapes are selected from choice vineyards in the upper Douro and majority are found at altitude.
Luís Sottomayor's aim is to produce bright, lively wines for youthful drinking, quite the opposite to the fortified age-worthy numbers he produces at Sandemans and Casa Ferreirinha.

Feijoada

A robust, flavoursome Portuguese pork stew that's not for the faint-hearted, this needs a full, ripe red wine to stand up to the porky flavours. Try this rich Port variety blend from the Douro as a lovely food match. Full recipe

Baked Stuffed Aubergine With Walnut and Roquefort

With a lot of strong, rich flavours in this baked dish, you need to match the salty cheese with acidic tomato, savoury aubergine and nuts. Try a medium to full-bodied red with enough fruit flavour to contrast with the saltiness in the cheese, an Italian red such as the Pergolino Rosso is a great match. Full recipe

A great wine

Have never even heard of the grape varieties, a dry wine, to my taste similar to a Picpoul but with more frutiness. A really good wine with food
