The Producer

Klippenkop takes its name from the Afrikaans words for rocky outcrop or hillock. Indeed this is a good description of some of the terrain in the Robertson region where the 35 family-run vineyards that produce this wine are found. The Klippenkop company was first established in 1941 and the vineyards of its growers now cover an area of 1900 hectares. The wide variety of terrain allows for perfect siting of each grape variety to get the very best from each cultivar. The vines for this wine are aged between 7 and 9 years old resulting in high quality fruit.

Top 10 Best-Selling Red Wine

A blend of the rare Caladoc grape with Tinta Roriz, this wine is all juicy fruit. Yes, a light sense of structure gives the wine shape, but the bold berry fruits give it a refreshing, ready-to-drink character. Enjoy now. Wine Enthusiast 87 pts

The Producer

Founded by wine-making legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DFJ Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.

This Italian red wine is a Best Buy. Don't just take our word for it, our customers agree. Francis left a great review and told us 'Italian wines are never a disappointment, and this is one of the best on offer. Very refined. Order some before it sells out!' We couldn't agree more. Like all good Italian wine this is great with pizza and pasta

The Producer

Il Faggio Italian Red wine is made by Alana McGettigan at one of the region's best co-operatives in the northern part of the Abruzzi. The aim is to capture in the bottle the power and intensity of the grape, together with a lift and freshness which is seldom found in Montepulciano wines from this area. The name Il Faggio derives from the fabulous beech trees which proliferate in this area, especially in the Abruzzo national park.

Salami Pizza

The smoky, spiced meat needs a wine with lots of soft fruit while the tomato sauce requires a good dollop of acidity. Italian reds made from Montepulciano or Sangiovese are a great placed to start. Full recipe

The Producer

Family owned winery Casas del Bosque was founded in 1993 by Juan Cuneo Solari. The son of an Italian immigrant, he had always dreamed of having his own vineyard and chanced upon an area of the Casablanca Valley, 100k due west of Santiago, with its pine forests, olive groves and small, white abandoned adobe houses. He chose to name the winery Casas del Bosque, or “Houses of the Forest.” The winemaking team are evangelical about translating the character of the vineyard and grape in to the final wine, using longer than average skin contact to extract extra flavour from the grapes. Some vineyards are under organic management and the winery is currently beginning the process towards Wines of Chile Sustainability Certification, which is the first step on the way to organic certification.

Top Wine

I've had this wine in three cases and I have to say it comes out top every time. A smooth red that I love drinking on its own or with a light snack.

Excellent, easy-drinking wine at an excellent price

Medium bodied wine with an initial hint of cherries and other fruit flavours, followed by a discernible vanilla finish, though I could not detect the promised fig flavours. Lighter alcohol content (ideal for mid-week) and good value for a very drinkable wine, with or without food accompaniment.

By Mike on 16th January 2019

Best wine I've had for ages

Got this in a mixed case, they were all good with this the standout best! I will be ordering more,it goes with most food, also delicious on its own, just lovely.

A reasonably priced wine that punches well above its weight.

Chilean

A smooth red with hints of cherry - this wine would be nice with a slight chill in the fridge.
