An Argentinian red wine that blends classic Malbec with that Rioja stalwart, Tempranillo. You'll find this works really well, giving the plush Malbec a silky soft edge. There's a moreish, gluggable quality making it a strong everyday wine candidate. Made by top winery Zuccardi too, top value red

"With plenty of sweet and succulent plum and cherry fruit in the foreground, and a little twist of plum-skin sourness and paprika spice, this is an attractively juicy young red."
The Wine Gang 2015.

Good to drink with or without food. The subtle spicy flavour arouses the taste buds and combined with the fruity red berries leaves a pleasant gentle aftertaste. Michael

The Producer

Three generations of the Zuccardi family have presided over the company since it was founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963. Planting vines in the Maipu province of Mendoza, Alberto was one of the first producers to experiment with irrigation systems. Fast forward fifty years and current owner Sebastián Zuccardi was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 by the International Wine Challenge. Social and environmental responsibility is high on the agenda for this prominent company and initiatives include the protection of over 70 hectares of woodland and 1100 hectares where the native flora and fauna are protected.

The Winemaker

Following a degree in oenology, Rubén Ruffo has worked more than 20 vintages in the winery and also manages to fit in numerous overseas trips to gain experience in wineries in France, Italy and all over Spain. His enthusiasm for his job is infectious and his precise, detailed approach is evident across the Zuccardi range and rewarded in multiple awards.

The Region

Mendoza is the country's largest wine province, producing over 80% of Argentina's total wine production and with more than 160,000 hectares of cultivated vineyards. The Suelo Argentino and St Veronica wines are produced in one of Mendoza’s most historic vineyard areas in the east of the region, planted at altitudes of between 640 -750m above sea level. This area copes well with both white and red varietals, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin and Torrontés among the whites and Shiraz, Malbec, Bonarda and Tempranillo for the reds - with the St Veronica wines made specifically from grapes grown in the southern, higher altitude Uco Valley.

what a find

I love Malbec, probably a bit too much. This was one of the most interesting, good flavours with a great mouth feel, great on its own or with punchy foods. I paired with a Spicy Okra curry and it held its own

Perfect alone but pleasures a tender rack of lamb

A rich red, full of the subtle flavours of the as yet, undervalued tempranillo malbec grape. The care taken by producers preserves the delicate taste of the ripe plum and spice.

Peppers Stuffed with Beef

The combination of creamy meat filling in the deep-fried sweet peppers is a great match for the ripe black fruit flavours of a Tempranillo and Malbec blend.
