Hailing from the north of Tasmania, the Tamar Ridge wines are produced by Aussie greats Brown Brothers. A medal winner at five different Aussie wine shows in 2016, this has also just scored 5 Stars in James Halliday's Australians Wine Companion 2018. It's a beautifully complex Riesling with hints of exotic spice and butterscotch on the nose with that tell-tale kerosene aroma. The palate is intense and ripe with rich, peach and citrus-toned fruit and a streak of mineral acidity. This will keep well in the cellar for a year or so if you can resist.

Buy this if...you love crisp, intense Riesling.

'Easy-going citrus fruit, ripe and very drinkable.' Richard Hemming MW 16.5/20 Jancisrobinson.com

The Producer

Brown Brothers has thrived beyond four generations not just through family loyalty or a vision of the future but also because of the vast expertise in nurturing their vineyards and in making high class wines. Founded in 1889 by John Francis Brown, it was under the guidance of his son, John Charles Brown, that Brown Brothers established its reputation as a producer willing to experiment with innovative grape varieties.

Tom Cannavan Reviews

Don't just take our word for it; here's what wine writer Tom Cannavan has to say:

"What a nice hint of gently beeswax development here, rosy red apple fruit, a lovely hint of nectarine ripeness and juiciness, a hint of smoky minerals in a lovely, very approachable wine that becomes quite firm, lean and focused on the palate, extending into a balanced and dry finish. One of those lovely Rieslings that is heaven-sent for white fish, shellfish and Thai or Szechuan flavours"

The Region

With vineyards in Victoria and Tasmania, Brown Brothers have an amazing array of parcels with diverse soil types, aspects and micro-climates at their disposal. Australia's original cool-climate wine producing region, the island of Tasmania sits out in the southern Ocean with little between it and the freezing waters of the Antarctic. The majority of the wineries are located on the northern region including the Tamar Valley and the eastern shores, sheltered from the more extreme weather conditions. Wines are classic cool-climate styles with aromatic whites and fresh reds from grapes such as Riesling and Pinot Noir.
