The Producer

Family-owned Domaine de Cassagnau is situated in the heart of the Languedoc region, due south of Carcasonne. The success of the estate has very much relied on the women of the family, with Berthe Abet in charge of the domaine for six decades and through two world wars. A doctor by profession, Jacques inherited the estate from his mother, Berthe's daughter Jacqueline, and continues the family business with wife Collette.

Roasted Tomato & Garlic Pasta

Tomato based sauces match well with light or medium bodied reds with high acidity which square up to the acidity in the tomatoes and make both food and wine taste fruitier. Try a classic French red from the Pays d'Oc or fruity New World style with little or no oak ageing. Full recipe

Top 10 Best-Selling Red Wine

This Italian red wine is a Best Buy. Don't just take our word for it, our customers agree. Francis left a great review and told us 'Italian wines are never a disappointment, and this is one of the best on offer. Very refined. Order some before it sells out!' We couldn't agree more. Like all good Italian wine this is great with pizza and pasta

The Producer

Il Faggio Italian Red wine is made by Alana McGettigan at one of the region's best co-operatives in the northern part of the Abruzzi. The aim is to capture in the bottle the power and intensity of the grape, together with a lift and freshness which is seldom found in Montepulciano wines from this area. The name Il Faggio derives from the fabulous beech trees which proliferate in this area, especially in the Abruzzo national park.

Salami Pizza

The smoky, spiced meat needs a wine with lots of soft fruit while the tomato sauce requires a good dollop of acidity. Italian reds made from Montepulciano or Sangiovese are a great placed to start. Full recipe

In 2002 a new modern winery was built with state of the art facilities but keeping many of the good traditions of Spanish winemaking.

Rude Reserve Rouge 2016, Languedoc

Definitely a favorite

We have tried this wine a few times now as part of mixed cases, and it's become our go-to favourite. It has never disappointed, with food or on its own. Smooth, with just the right amount of fruitiness - neither overpowering nor too delicate - and every sip transports us from dreary weather to memories of summer and warm, delicious locations. We love it!!

Outstanding Characterful Wine

I wouldn't normally spend under £10 on a bottle of wine, but I continue to be impressed with this one. Great with Italian food and strong cheeses. The Vintner who produces this is a true Craftsman.
