Cento Cavalli Nero d’Avola 2016, Sicily

0 review(s)

Partner to the fruity Grillo, this is a terrific introduction to Sicily's top red wine variety, Nero d'Avola. It's an Italian wine you'll enjoy if you like Montepulciano, for sure. Plenty of plum and chocolate characters in this, tasty, everyday style of red wine, one that could easily become a favourite

Wine making duo Alana McGettigan and Matt Thomson make our Cento Cavalli in the hills outside of Trapani. The best sites on the estate's vineyards are reserved for Nero d'Avola and Grillo. Alana selects the best fruit from these vineyards for the Cento Cavalli wines, which are made in the modern and well equipped winery.

In 1415 when the King of Spain heard that Fernando 1 of Aragon was planning a trip to Nice he asked Fernando to take with him some of the wines from Carinena. In 2002 a new modern winery was built with state of the art facilities but keeping many of the good traditions of Spanish winemaking.

Blue Cheese Burgers with Sweet Potato Wedges

Burgers and red wine are a match made in heaven but don’t forget the blue cheese element which could scuper your wine choice. To contrast the creamy, salty notes of the cheese, head to full, fruity reds with good acidity. The Saint-Cyr Carignan is a mighty match. Full recipe
