Great Red Wines on a Budget

Wines this good at these prices deserve a closer look.

Take the Il Faggio Montepulciano. It's the ideal pizza and pasta red wine, with a refreshing, cherry-ish character that's positively thirst-quenching like you wouldn't believe. Once on the list at Jamie's Italian, it's a firm Italian favourite of ours. Or the Spanish organic Tempranillo, the same grape you'll find in good Rioja, with full juicy-fruit flavours that'll make any dining event memorable.

These are reds that have earned their position as Rude Wines favourites. With customers coming back for more being one of our top signs of a great wine.

Working out at £7.50 a bottle, you'll be saving a packet too.

You mightn't think it's possible to drink good red wines yet save money too. Let us prove you wrong. We've pulled together a range of top-notch reds that'll give you quality drinking - and you'll save 16.5%

Beso de Vino Organic Tempranillo 2017, Somontano

Organic Tempranillo from Spain's Somontano wine region. This 'kiss of wine' bowled us over with its authentic Spanish vibe. So versatile, and such good value. A distinct notch-up from most wines at this level

In 1415 when the King of Spain heard that Fernando 1 of Aragon was planning a trip to Nice he asked Fernando to take with him some of the wines from Cariñena. This Italian red wine is a Best Buy. Don't just take our word for it, our customers agree. Francis left a great review and told us 'Italian wines are never a disappointment, and this is one of the best on offer. Very refined. Order some before it sells out!' We couldn't agree more. Il Faggio Italian Red wine is made by Alana McGettigan at one of the region's best co-operatives in the northern part of the Abruzzi. The aim is to capture in the bottle the power and intensity of the grape, together with a lift and freshness which is seldom found in Montepulciano wines from this area. The name Il Faggio derives from the fabulous beech trees which proliferate in this area, especially in the Abruzzo national park.

A blend of the rare Caladoc grape with Tinta Roriz, this wine is all juicy fruit. Yes, a light sense of structure gives the wine shape, but the bold berry fruits give it a refreshing, ready-to-drink character. Enjoy now. Wine Enthusiast 87 pts

The Producer

Founded by wine-making legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DFJ Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.
