It's true, there's often not much choice when you're looking for good wines under £7 a bottle. We thought it high time that changed and set about picking some classic wines we'd sell at £6.99.

Wines that before had been at £7.99, £8.99, and even £9.99. Wines that our customers rave about and buy time and time again. Wines that you won't see on the high street, and have that extra bit of character than the norm.

We're convinced you won't find better wines at £6.99. That's certainly a fair 'everyday' price these days, but you'll be drinking wines genuinely worth much more.

Take your wines to the next level, for not a penny more.

Simply the best everyday wines we've come across, now all under £7 a bottle. You'll notice the difference in the glass, not the wallet

The Producer

Founded by winemaking legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DJF Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.

Portuguese Salt Cod

The robust flavour of salt cod with spicy piri piri can stand up to a red wine such as a Pinot Noir. So there's no need to match this white fish with a white wine on this occasion - try the fruity, balanced Paxis with soft tannins to stand up to the rich fish and vibrant seasoning. Full recipe

Wow! What a beautiful fragrant wine, a hint of Muscat without the associated over sweetness of that grape, and a sharp freshness that could only be Italian Richard

I felt compelled to check where I bought it from and then to tell anyone who cares to read this that it's very, very quaffable Alan

Made from Pinotage, South Africa's flagship red grape, this is a dark, brooding wine, rich with black fruit and just a hint of chocolate. Always worth trying, we think you'll lap up this great value example.

Blue Cheese Burgers with Sweet Potato Wedges

Burgers and red wine are a match made in heaven but don’t forget the blue cheese element which could scupper your wine choice. To contrast the creamy, salty notes of the cheese, head to full, fruity reds with good structure. Garnacha is a great option as it's higher alcohol and acidity will compliments the flavours and its red fruit flavours will balance the blue cheese. Full recipe

Not having come across this grape before it was a fantastic surprise to experience such a crisp fruity summer wine. We have just bought a box for the summer... but I fear that we will be ordering more boxes before long... David

Chilean Fish Stew

Pair rich fish stews with vibrant, zesty whites such as Sauvignon Blanc which have enough fruit flavour to balance out the punchy garlic, herbs and tomatoes. Or, Try something different and go for a Viognier. It will definitely stand up to the challenge. Full recipe

Freshness and depth

A light tasting wine yet comes with a bit of depth to its character. Not too minerally either. A very drinkable, refreshing wine.

Citrus zest

For those that like their wines to have a citrus zest this is probably a five star wine. Personally I prefer Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay but still very much enjoyed this wine though the zest was slightly overdone for my taste.

Refreshing easy-drinking wine.

I was very impressed with this lovely wine which is one of the best whites I have tried. It has a strong pleasant bouquet without being overpowering. After a first whiff I anticipated a great wine and was not disappointed. It is very refreshing and has an excellent finish. I recently included this wine in my presentation at the wine club section of my local bowls club and everyone really enjoyed it, rating it very highly, even the most critical members.

An enjoyable surprise

Very much enjoyed this wine with quiche and salad today, so much so that contrary to my usual attitude to being determined never to review anything at all, I felt compelled to check where I bought it from and then to tell anyone who cares to read this that it's very, very quaffable. Crisp and refreshing, and not too alcoholic. No, I didn't drink the whole bottle, but I could have, very easily.

Summer wine for all occasions

Just enjoyed this wine with barbecue steak and salad. The fruit and zest balance worked well and left a clean fruit on the palate. Can't wait to try this wine with a creamy pasta dish maybe with some salmon.
