Vermentino is valued for its ability to produce aromatic, flavoursome, whites of excellent quality and perfect for every occasion.

You may also see this predominantly Sardinian grown grape masquerading as it's French alter ego, Rolle. But don't worry if not; it's frankly not that common. It's a brilliant alternative to Sauvignon blanc due it's lively, refreshing and has refreshing acidity. There's a really summery floral aromatic side to this white wine too.

So why not give this Savvy B alternative a try? You'll not regret it.

Fancy something different this summer as you're sunning yourself in the garden and dipping your feet in the paddling pool? This Vermentino from South-West France is just what you need. It's clean, bright and full of vibrant aromatic fresh fruit flavours.

The Producer

The Cave de Pomerols co-operative is situated in the village of Pomerols in the Picpoul de Pinet area of the Languedoc, inland from the town of Sete. Founded in 1932, it now has 350 winegrowing members spread over 1750 hectares in the centre of the Languedoc region, of which 400 are classified as AC Picpoul de Pinet.

The Winemaker

New Zealander Graeme Paul, director Joel Julienne and consultant winemaker Matt Thomson combine forces at the Cave de Pomerols cooperative to produce a wide variety of styles from across the Languedoc region. Graeme Paul makes this particular wine, fermenting in stainless steel to retain the bright fruit character.

The Region

The region benefits from a sunny warm climate which encourages ripe, fruity flavours in the wines, while the coastal breezes help retain freshness and aromatics. The grapes come from low-lying selected vineyards around the Etang de Thau and Picpoul area and the vines are planted on sandy soils with harvesting achieved both by hand and machine.

Crab Cakes

The delicate crab meat calls for a smooth, fruity, floral white or rosé which doesn't overpower the meat - try Southern French whites such as our Les Vignes de L'Eglise Vermentino or rosés with good weight of fruit.

Pea And Goats Cheese Risotto

Risottos pair well with both reds and whites so consider the other ingredients when choosing a wine match - the combination of sweet peas and salty goats cheese call for a vibrant white with lots of fruit flavour. If you want something a bit different, try a Vermentino.
